Play Noughts and Crosses on the grass, listen to the fabulous Josh Morphett.

And of course, check out all the amazing fresh produce available from the stallholders.

The Victor Harbor Farmer's Market is looking forward to a solid summer season. Winter can be bleak, but due to a loyal band of customers and stallholders they continue to keep a tradition going that has been going for 11 years in December.

Seven stallholders have been part of the Victor Harbor Farmer's Market (VHFM) since it inception.

The VHFM is a not-for-profit incorporated association and has donated $9900 in the 2018/19 financial year to groups who need assistance.

HELPED START IT: Brenton Tamblyn was the first manager of the Victor Harbor Farmer's Market in December 2008.

The inaugural manager of the VHFM Brenton Tamblyn remembers proudly the origins of the market and the amount of money it has donated to key groups.

"The market offers something different in produce and it is a community with an identity of its own. Initially it was established by the City of Victor Harbor and with this support we have created a special service to the community," Brenton said.

"Over the 11 years, the market has donated significantly to charities and the community, in particular to groups like the Salvation Army, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Bradley's House, the Community Garden and schools in the region."

Brenton has always been a constant at the market and runs a stall each Saturday morning from 8am to 12.30pm. Like all stallholders, Brenton is there rain, hail or shine.

"We put growers and producers directly in touch with customers and Grosvenor Gardens really does come alive each Saturday," he said.

"The place is full of character and we are a family. I would like to give credit to former chair of the VHFM Jane Williams. She is a passionate foodie, very generous and well liked. It is what the market is about."

Southern Fleurieu Flora on Gardening Australia!

The weather on Saturday looks like being beautiful, just right for gardening!

A year ago Sophie Thomson and the Gardening Australia TV crew filmed the garden of our stallholders Gill and John Muller from Southern Fleurieu Flora.

It’s going to be on Gardening Australia this Friday, 30/8, ABC 2 at 7.30pm, part of their spring show.

So have a look, then pop in and see if Gill is still standing after the nervous 12 month wait! She’ll have plenty of tubestock for sale, after all it is spring on Sunday!

July is Plastic Free Month – ONYA

As you know July is Plastic Free Month. The Victor Harbor Farmers Market Committee is very keen to help towards the Market becoming as plastic free as possible, and to help you in your homes too.

We will be selling these brilliant ONYA products at the Membership Stall as soon as they arrive! Hopefully this Saturday, but unfortunately looking at the tracking of the parcel delivery it may not be until the following Saturday.

The Produce bags are made from recycled plastic drink bottles, and weigh so little you just put your produce straight into them, onto the scales, then home into the fridge. And because they “breathe” produce will last longer. In little pouches of green, red or purple, they come in 5 or 8 bag packs.

And finally, compostable bin liners! 36L bags, 25 on a roll.

Other sizes and products are available, John will have a catalogue that you can look through, and maybe place an order with him.

Members will receive a very generous initial discount of 20% on all products, non members pay full retail prices.

So fingers crossed we’ll have these products available on Saturday, if not, definitely the following Saturday, 19/7.

Stallholder of the Week – Gill Muller, Southern Fleurieu Flora

Stallholder of the week is Gill Muller from Southern Fleurieu Flora. She’s been selling native plants at the market for six years now, and knows the growing conditions on the Southern Fleurieu pretty well, as well as gardening herself in Port Elliot.

Gill sources nearly all her tubestock from State Flora Nursery, having worked there from 1999 till 2011 she can access the good stuff, a lot provenanced from around this area. If it isn’t local, it will be natives that will grow well in the area.

A passionate lover of native plants for over 40 years, there’s a rumor that if you watch the ABC Gardening Australia show in late August you just may see Sophie Thomson visiting Gill’s garden. Just a rumor mind.

And of course Gill is married to the very important John, on the Membership Information stand. Some time harp player to the busker, supplier of the back up music, as well as maintaining the Membership database, taking Membership fees and issuing cards, generally very important person for members, stallholders and the general public to have to come to!

Lovely treats for Mother’s Day Sat Market 8-12.30pm

We have some lovely treats for you for Mother’s Day at tomorrow’s market.

Gina’s Kitchen & Field Berries have these beautiful Chrysanthemums and the heart shaped biscuits.

Meanwhile Anna from Anna’s Homestyle Baking has been baking up a storm! Cupcakes with roses, Melting Moments, all sorts of yummy cakes and biscuits that she’ll sell in packs of three or four, and gift wrap for you!

And Mum (or Grandma, don’t forget Grandma) may just like a visit to the market for coffee from Jelly, breakfast at Primal Bliss BBQ and to check out the other stalls for fresh produce, fish, great bread, a huge choice of fruit and veggies and plants!

Rug up and we’ll see you tomorrow, 8.00am till 12.30pm.

Childhood Cancer
Bradley’s Place

Did you know that since 2016 the Victor Harbor Farmers Market has been giving every family that stays at Bradley’s Place $50 in market vouchers, plus market membership for the day?

These families are staying at Bradley’s Place in Inman Valley on respite, whilst dealing with childhood cancer.

Before the Market took over donating the vouchers Neil from VICTORFISH had been donating his own for a number of years.

They get 10 $5 vouchers, so they can use them all at one stall, or spread them around. As well as the 10% discount the membership provides.

A lovely way of helping these families, and introducing them to one of Saturday’s must visits in Victor Harbor.
