Victor Harbor Farmers Market 2023 Spring/Summer Newsletter
Victor Harbor Farmers Market Newsletter
As we write this newsletter, we hope everyone is well and keeping warm. The past few months have seen some very wet and windy Saturday mornings, but despite this, our dedicated family of cheerful stallholders continue to provide fresh and delicious produce.
Adding to the friendly atmosphere of the market are our loyal customers that brave the weather week in and week out – thank you. Finally, we have been blessed with great weather for the last few markets, which has resulted in lots of people enjoying the music and produce.

Farewell to Gill and John after many years with the VHFM. They will be truly missed!
The rain didn’t dampen the wonderful send off we had.
Lovely words from Brent, Neil and De, and so many people. The Goodie Basket, and Box overflowed with fabulous bounty, and the card is a work of art, De you really out did yourself there.
We’ve had a wonderful ten years, made so many friends, loved being part of such a great family. We know we are leaving the Membership side of things in great hands with Deb Green, she came along at the perfect time. She and I discovered more things we had in common, we could have been good friends.
There’s also a rumor Matt East may be taking over the Facebook and Instagram posting.
Watch this space.

Meet Deb Green, the new Membership Officer. A very welcome volunteer!
Meet Deb Green, the new Membership Officer. A very welcome volunteer, come and say hi.
It’s cold, a little wet, but we have plenty of great produce for you this morning.
The Basket Range Baker has just arrived, Calico Cakes has Chocolate Orange Dessert Cake as cake of the month, Minka from Kimchi Club is here with her yummy Bibimbowls.
Health by Flora, Kate & Jesse welcomed baby Harriet into the world yesterday.
Happy Days at Health by Flora. Kate and Jesse welcomed baby Harriet into the world yesterday.
The VHFM committee, members and customers all send congratulations to Kate and Jesse on Harriet’s birth, and wish for a healthy (we know her gut will be!) happy life for her.
We really look forward to seeing her at the Market, becoming part of the big Market family, and watching her grow and flourish here.
Our very best wishes to Kate, Jesse and baby Harriet.
The Market is looking for Volunteers to look after the VHFM Membership.
So, John and I are leaving, we are retiring back to Adelaide. We’ve had a wonderful fun, nearly 12 years in Port Elliot and 10 here at the Farmers Market. Family calls.
The market is looking for volunteers for membership.
Please email manager@victorharborfarmersmarket.com.au if you think you’d be interested, or come and see John, myself or De at Calico Cakes at the market on Saturday mornings.
It’s a fantastic way to give back to the Victor Harbor community, and the Victor Harbor Farmers Market family is wonderful to be part of, we’ll certainly miss it.
SACWA will have a special stall this Saturday with a variety of goodies to raise funds.
Tonight a handful of our branch members came together to bake scones under the tutelage of award winning scone maker Jo Lush.
Get your scone fix this Saturday 25th March at the Victor Harbor Farmers Market.
There will be other baked goods, craft and SACWA scone mix, cookbooks and tea towels available too.
Hope to see you there.

Some photos from this morning’s presentation to Con and Harry, last market day.
Some photos from this morning’s presentation to Con and Harry.
De had canvassed a few people, and had some anecdotes, then Brent spoke of his memories of the last 14 plus years. John and myself presented Con and Harry with Life Membership Cards of the market (making sure they’ll be back to visit), then De gave them each a beautiful watercolour painting of Petrel Cove, by one of our long time members, Annette Vandenberg. I think more than a few tears may have been shed.
Then at the end of the morning, the last walk around and last wave.
We all do wish them both so well in their retirement, Con and Harry Fresh Fruit.

Sadly, this Saturday will be Con and Harry’s last day at the VH Farmers Market.
It’s nearly here. This Saturday will be Con and Harry’s last day at our market.
“The Boys” have become an institution at Victor Harbor, having sold their Riverland produce here since 2008.
I know many of you want to say goodbye, we’re going to have a presentation to Con and Harry on Saturday morning between 9.30am and 10.30am, hopefully close to 10.00am. In front of the Rotunda, just a matter of organising everyone. De and Dino are on the case.
It’s going to be a very busy last morning for Con and Harry Fresh Fruit, I’m sure.
They were here from the start in 2008! Sat, March 4th will be Con & Harry’s last VH market.
Well it had to happen. They were there in December 2008 when the market first opened. Now, just over 14 years later, they are leaving us for good. Saturday, March the 4th will be Con and Harry’s last market with us.
Just look at those two young fellas from those early days. Time has flown. Harry needs to be a full time carer for his wife. Time to retire.
And boy will we miss them. Not just their fantastic produce, that goes without saying, but those huge smiles, beautiful personalities.
So two more weeks. Then we’ll only have four of our original market stallholders left. But we have built a vibrant market, and when Con and Harry Fresh Fruit do finish on the Fourth of March we’ll shed some tears (probably a lot), and wish them both a long, healthy retirement.
